Who Is 888-899-6650?

The phone number 888-899-6650 belongs to Transworld Systems Inc (TSI), a legitimate debt collection agency that works with various creditors. They specialize in recovering unpaid debts for creditors in industries like healthcare, education, and financial services.

Although TSI is a real company, their collection practices can frustrate consumers, as they often make frequent robocalls.

Why Is 888-899-6650 Calling Me?

TSI could be calling you because of a missed payment or an outstanding debt. Creditors like hospitals, universities, or credit card companies may hire TSI to recover payments after accounts have gone unpaid for several months.

But even if they think you owe money, their records might be wrong. It’s not uncommon for collection agencies to make errors. The debt might not belong to you, or the amount may be incorrect. That’s why it’s so important to ask for proof before you take any action. We cover this more below.

Is Transworld Systems Inc Legit?

Yes, Transworld Systems Inc (TSI) is a legitimate debt collection agency that’s been in business for over 54 years.

They aren’t accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but they currently have a “B” rating on the platform.

TSI has received 927 complaints through the BBB in the past three years, and several thousand complaints have been filed against them with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) since 2022.

Here are the most frequent complaints reported by consumers:

  • Being contacted about debts that don’t belong to them, were already paid, or resulted from identity theft

  • Incorrect information added to credit reports, causing credit scores to drop

  • Failing to provide proper documentation or proof of debts, even after multiple requests

  • Harassment through excessive calls, including robocalls

  • Garnishing wages without proper notification or after debts were paid in full

  • Failing to send written notices about debts or the right to dispute them, as required by law

You have rights in the debt collection process and can file complaints if you experience similar issues.

What Are My Rights When Dealing With TSI?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by collection calls, it’s important to know that you have rights

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is a federal law that protects you from harassment, deception, and unfair treatment by debt collectors.

Under the FDCPA, debt collectors can’t:

  • Can’t call you before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m.

  • Harass you or make threats

  • Tell your employer or family members about your debt

  • Make false claims or misrepresent who they are

And they must provide proof of the debt by sending a debt validation letter.

The FDCPA is a federal law, but many states have their own debt collection laws that offer additional protections.

If you believe TSI has violated these rules, you can file complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), or your state attorney general’s office.

What Should I Do if 888-899-6650 Calls Me?

If you’re getting calls from TSI, it’s best not to ignore them. Avoiding collection calls could lead to bigger problems, such as lawsuits, wage garnishment, or damage to your credit score.

Instead, take action by verifying the debt and then deciding how to respond.

Step 1: Verify the Debt

Before agreeing to anything, make sure the debt is legitimate. Under the FDCPA, debt collectors are required to send you a debt validation letter within five days of their first contact.

This letter should include:

  • The original creditor’s name

  • The amount owed

  • Proof that TSI is authorized to collect the debt

If you haven’t received this letter, you can request one in writing. You can also send a debt verification letter to dispute the debt or ask for more details. If TSI can’t verify the debt within 30 days, they are legally required to stop contacting you.

Step 2: Decide How To Respond

Once you’ve verified the debt, you can choose how to handle it.

Here are your options:

  • Pay the debt

  • Settle the debt

  • Dispute the debt

  • File bankruptcy to eliminate the debt

Pay the Debt

If you owe the debt and can afford to pay it in full, this is the fastest way to stop the calls and protect your credit.

Many people can’t afford to pay the debt in full. If that’s true for you, you can also try to negotiate a repayment plan or debt settlement agreement with TSI.

Settle the Debt

If you agree you owe the debt but can’t afford to pay the full amount, debt settlement might be an option.

Debt collectors like Transworld Systems Inc often buy debts for much less than the original amount owed. Because of this, they’re usually willing to settle for less than what you owe. People who are able to offer a lump-sum payment — even if it’s half of what they owe or less — tend to be the most successful in negotiating a debt settlement.

Take note that you can negotiate on your own. You don’t have to hire a debt settlement company or attorney to help. If you decide to get help, do your homework on any company or person before you hire them to avoid debt collection scams.

Upsolve partners with SoloSuit to help people get support with debt settlement while avoiding scammers. It's free to make a settlement offer through SoloSuit, and they're transparent about the cost should you choose to use their settlement services.

Dispute the Debt

If you think the debt is incorrect, doesn’t belong to you, or has already been paid, you have the right to dispute it. Disputing the debt requires Transworld Systems Inc to review the account and provide proof that it’s valid. Make sure to send your dispute in writing within 30 days of receiving their validation letter.

After submitting your dispute, it’s also smart to check your credit report for mistakes. You can get a free copy of your credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com, the official government website.

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), creditors and debt collectors are only allowed to report accurate information to the credit bureaus. So if you find any errors, you can dispute them and have them removed. Correcting these inaccuracies is one of the best ways to improve your credit score.

Consider Filing Bankruptcy

If you’re getting calls from multiple debt collectors and feel overwhelmed by debt you can’t repay, it might be time to consider filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Chapter 7 bankruptcy is meant to give people a fresh financial start. It can eliminate credit card debt, medical bills, and payday loans. In some cases, it can even cancel federal student loans, though you’ll need to go through a separate process to have them discharged.

Upsolve has a free online tool to help people see if they qualify for Chapter 7 and complete the required paperwork. We're a nonprofit, so our services are 100% free. We've helped thousands of people get rid of $700 million in debt through bankruptcy.

If you want some personalized legal advice about your case, Upsolve can connect you to a local bankruptcy lawyer for a free consultation.

What Happens if I Ignore the Calls?

Ignoring calls from 888-899-6650 might seem like the easiest option, but it can lead to serious consequences:

  • Your credit score may drop. Collection accounts can significantly harm your credit.

  • You could be sued. Debt collectors can take legal action to recover unpaid debts.

  • You may face wage garnishment or have your bank account frozen. If a court rules against you, TSI could garnish your wages or freeze your accounts to collect payment.

It’s usually better to address the situation as soon as possible.

How To Stop Calls From 888-899-6650 for Good

If you’re tired of the constant calls, you can tell TSI to stop calling you or block their phone number.

Tell Them To Stop Calling

The FDCPA gives you the right to tell TSI to stop contacting you. While you can do this over the phone, it’s best to make this request in writing by sending a cease and desist letter. You can use Upsolve’s free letter template to get started.

Once they receive this letter, they can only contact you to confirm they won’t call again or to notify you of legal action.

⚠️ Important: Sending a cease and desist letter won’t eliminate the debt. TSI could still take legal action, so make sure you’re prepared to handle the debt if that happens.

Block the Number or Join the National Do Not Call Registry

Use your phone’s call-blocking feature to block 888-899-6650. This won’t stop TSI from trying other methods of communication, but it can give you some temporary relief.

You can also register your number at DoNotCall.gov. The National Do Not Call Registry doesn’t prevent legitimate debt collection calls, but adding your number can reduce other types of annoying robocalls, spam calls, and voicemails. And it’s a free service.

Let’s Summarize…

Calls from 888-899-6650 can be frustrating, but you have options for stopping them. Start by verifying the debt to ensure it’s accurate and legitimate. Then, decide how you want to handle it — whether that means paying, disputing, negotiating, or filing bankruptcy to clear it.

Remember, you have rights under the FDCPA to protect you from harassment or unfair treatment. By taking the steps outlined in this guide, you can stop unwanted calls from TSI and take control of your financial situation.
